Could you please provide the Perfmon counters that were set on your Edge server? Do the same/similar ones work on a Hub?
You mentioned briefly some things are not applicable if a Hub is being used, I assume attachment filtering is one of those?
I posted the counters here http://www.krneki.net/blog/exchange%20spam.zip.
Not all of them will work. Some of them are name connected to SMTP connectors. You will have to manually re-add them on your servers...
Not sure what exactly I had in mind at the time. You can enable filtering on hub server. Not really recommended from security and performance standpoint. You really want to remove malicious code on edge of your network, before it gets to internal server like hub. One of the downside of receiving external e-mail to hub is additional processor load. Running antivirus scanner (with multiple definitions) on all email, checking RBL lists, etc can add quite a bit of load. Of course this would depend mostly on number of messages received per minute etc. If this server is also a mailbox server and if you have high number of messages coming in from the internet, users accessing their mailboxes could experience a delay or slow/bad server performance. If you remember from my presentation, less than 95% of all e-mails that hit edge server get forwarded to internal network.

Attachment filter does indeed run on Edge only. Still you can install FF Security For Exchange on hub server and filter attachments there.
Mike, thanks a lot. Extremely helpful indeed.
